Smart Tools for Language Analysis and Support
Smart Speech Analysis for Personalized Language Development in Children

The TalKidz project focuses on developing a software solution for the analysis of children’s spontaneous speech, with the aim of supporting language development in a non-invasive and innovative way. By leveraging advanced technologies, the project seeks to automate the collection of speech data (without correcting perceived errors), classify phonetic-phonological and morphosyntactic patterns, and create an anonymized profile for each child. This profile will offer intelligent, evidence-based suggestions in the post-evaluation phase, providing valuable insights for educational and developmental strategies.
Key Objectives
1
Automating the transcription of spontaneous speech in children, ensuring that natural variations and unique language patterns are preserved.
2
Classifying linguistic features, such as phonetic-phonological and morphosyntactic elements, to better understand individual language use.
3
Offering personalized, adaptive suggestions that can assist in creating inclusive and empowering educational or developmental interventions.
Collaboration and Implementation
TalKidz is a collaborative effort led by the University of Turin, in partnership with the Department of Psychology and Fondazione Paideia. The project, funded with €30,000 by CRT Foundation, is set to run for 18 months starting in April 2024. The research team includes experts from various disciplines, such as Rossana Damiano (PA), Lia Draetta (Ph.D. candidate), Claudio Mattutino (Research Fellow), Nicola Barbaro (Research Fellow), and Michele Settanni (PA), ensuring a robust and interdisciplinary approach.
Impact
TalKidz aims to provide a scalable intervention model that can be applied in diverse contexts, from specialized centers to family environments. By offering intelligent, adaptable tools, the project seeks to empower children with diverse linguistic needs and foster a more inclusive approach to language development and support.
TalKidz represents a significant advancement in the field of language analysis, demonstrating how technology can be harnessed to create meaningful, personalized support systems for children.
